Welcome to The Reading Doctor, Southampton. With a background as a primary school teacher for five years, I have developed a deep passion for working with children and helping them unlock their potential, particularly when it comes to reading. Having retrained as a teacher with a clear focus on supporting young learners, I’ve cultivated a solid understanding of the importance of reading at all stages of development.

During my career, I predominantly worked with Year 6 pupils, where I gained an in-depth knowledge of the reading needs and challenges faced by children as they prepare to transition into secondary school. My expertise is not only in early reading but also in improving reading comprehension, ensuring children are fully equipped for the academic demands that lie ahead.

As a SENCo, I worked across the whole school, helping to develop provisions and create an inclusive environment for all learners. At a school rated as 'Requires Improvement,' I introduced sensory circuits and multi-sensory tools in all lessons to ensure every child had access to engaging, personalised learning. This holistic approach to teaching also extended to literacy, where I worked alongside a team to improve literacy outcomes across the school.

My love for reading is infectious, and I take particular joy in helping children discover their own passion for books. Whether it’s introducing graphic novels, uncovering new authors, or helping a child find their perfect genre, I believe that fostering a love of reading is a key part of their educational journey.
